Today we visited Petra and Jose school. This year school is running very well. Our school has 186 children this year. This is about 9 times more children if we compare it to last year. Last year we had only 21 kids. But in 2019 we had 314 children. Now they get 2 new teachers. So, they have 4 teachers now. Our school building is now open and running 3 rooms as a classroom. One room is used by a family who takes care of the school, another room is used by the teacher who comes from away. All toilets are in use, and they have an underground tube well. Luckily, they got enough electricity to pump up water for all daily use. For the drinking water they can buy the purified water. Because it is in the city and there is a delivery system. Formerly they paid 20 liters of drinking water for 300 Kyats and now 700 Kyats. They use Bluetooth speakers for the kids to practice the lesson. But the TV lesson they cannot give for the old TV is not working and the DVD player is missing. Some parts of the playground in front of our school building are damaged but children can play the other things. I am happy to report that our school is running again and a lot of warm greetings from the teachers of the school. /Min Min

Starting from last week we started the construction of Lucas Solar Water. Today all solar panels are in position. We just need to reconnect the wiring of the control system. It will be complete tomorrow. Now they have stronger solar power and better location. The first place can provide no more than 3 hours of sunlight. But now we will get more than 5 hours. Because this place is a very naturally shady monastery and the chief monk does not want to cut the trees. The name of the place is called Yadanaponsan monastery in New Bagan. More than 300 families from New Bagan come to this tube well for their drinking water. Although New Bagan is a town some people still depend on donating water. They have the electricity in this place. But the electricity has low voltage and costs a lot because of the free donation. And there is an old hand made tube well and the drinking water quality is also very good. Now we donate a PAUL filter there and people can collect not only good but also safe water in the future. There is also a charity clinic in his monastery compound. One Cruise line on Ayeyarwaddy river runs this clinic and now no tourism and they just hand it over to the monk. Now the monk struggles with his friends and every day around 60 to 80 patients come to this clinic. Now this clinic will also have a chance to use the safe water. And the chief monk is also donating water not only in his monastery but also in the different villages. They distribute water by self-pick-up system and donate it for free. And they need 6000 gallons of water per day. Now they have our solar water system, and it will cover more than their daily need for water. Our system works from 10:00 O’clock in the morning until 3 O’clock in the evening. And it works 5 hours per day. /Min Min

Yesterday I went to Petra and Jose school. And the school was closed. This morning I visited again. Luckily I got in touch this time with the teacher but today is a national Day and it is a holiday. Anyway we were lucky to get in the school and we broke the old locks and donated the new locks. And there is one more new teacher in the school. They said after they clean the school then they will inform us. And now they have 28 children in the school. /Min Min

Petra and Jose school is the branch middle school. Only the high school level school has a chance to open a very short time in July and August 2020. Until now we still have the Coronavirus infection in Myanmar. So our school has been closed since June 2020. This year we are not so sure to run all the school. All the children are staying at home. All the parents are also very difficult at this time because of coronavirus. Our school is located in New Bagan. This area is totally dependent on tourism. Now we are planning to donate 200 small rice bags for New Bagan. But it will distribute the whole new Bagan area. Especially for the people who work in the tourism industry. So only some people will get the donation. But it is better than nothing. In our school we have only our school building. So it is still one star village. /Min Min

Ich besuche heute zum ersten Mal diese Schule. Am neuen Gebäude ist wenig zu beanstanden. Die Regenrinne tropft an verschiedenen Stellen, Min Min wird sich darum kümmern. Es sind nur 3 der 5 Klassenzimmer besetzt. Dafür sind sie aber sehr gut gefüllt mit jeweils um die 60 Schüler. Der Schule fehlen im Moment ein paar Lehrer. Vor dem neuen Schuljahr wurden Lehrer pensioniert und die neuen sind noch nicht von der Regierung geschickt worden. Deswegen die sehr großen Klassen.
Die Toiletten und Handwaschbecken sind ordentlich, es gibt Wasser und alles scheint genutzt zu werden.
Die Lehrer kaufen jeden Tag von ihrem eigenen Geld das Trinkwasser für die Schüler, das kostet 4000 Kyat. Nur wenige Schüler bringen Trinkwasser von zu Hause mit. Es gibt hier eine Wasserpumpe, aber das Wasser ist wohl sehr kalkhaltig und die Kinder trinken es nicht. Manchmal bekommt die Schule auch Wasser aus dem Fluss, das trinken die Leute hier gern. Dann wird mit einem Tanklastwagen der Wassertank gefüllt. Ein PAUL Wasserfilter in Kombination mit dem Flusswasser könnte hier gut funktionieren. Eine Lieferung, um den Tank mit Flusswasser zu füllen kostet 30.000 Kyat, damit hätten sie für 2 Monate genügend Trinkwasser. Also das wäre dann viel günstiger als jetzt.
Wir informieren auch diese Schule über unseren "Saubere Schule" Wettbewerb. Mal schauen, was sich in den nächsten Monaten dazu hier tun wird. Min Min berichtet auch über unsere regelmäßigen Besuche der Schulen und unser Bestreben in guter Zusammenarbeit und gemeinsamer Verantwortung mit den Lehrern und Dorfbewohnern, das Schulgebäude zu erhalten.
KG - Grade 6, 324 Schüler, 11 Lehrer offiziell, aber davon sind 2 in Pension gegangen und 2 an eine andere Schule weg gegangen. D.h., dass ihnen im Moment 4 Lehrer fehlen, Elektrizität ist da. /Ursula

Am 8. Februar war es soweit: Petra, José und sein Sohn sind aus Deutschland gekommen, um die Schule einzuweihen. Bei der Feier gab es einige bemerkenswerte Reden: von José auf burmesisch, vom Landrat eine Homage an die Gäste und die Dorfbewohner. Die hatten sich für dieses Gebäude sehr engagiert, genauso wie der Mönch, der mit einer eigenen Spende dazu beigetragen hat, dass dieses schöne hohe Gebäude entstehen konnte. Natürlich gab es auch Gesang und Tanz, etwas zu essen und das alles am Nachmittag nach einem langen Schultag, Vormittags hatten die Kinder Prüfungen. Ein paar kleine Restarbeiten sind noch zu machen, und dann gehört die Schule den Kindern und den Lehrern. Sollen sie das Beste daraus machen. /jg

Die Arbeiten gehen gut voran. Die Baustelle ist nur ein paar Minuten von Min Mins Zuhause entfernt, da ist es ein Leichtes, jeden Tag mal vorbei zu schauen. Bis zum Jahresende soll alles fertig sein, auch das neue Toilettengebäude (hier im Bild nicht zu sehen, weil das hinter dem Schulgebäude steht)

So geruhsam das Leben der Burmesen im Allgemeinen auch sein mag - es geht auch schneller, als wir es uns vorstellen können: am Freitag wurde die Finanzierung für die PETRA AND JOSÉ School gesichert (in cash) Gestern hatten wir die feierliche Grundsteinlegung. Heute haben die Arbeiter begonnen, die Fundamente auszuheben. Bei diesem Projekt können wir die Arbeiten live verfolgen: an dem Gebäude im Hintergrund, über dem linken Fenster, hat Min Min eine Webcam installiert. /jg

Der Landrat ist gekommen, der Bürgermeister, die Lehrer und das Schulkommitee. Was gibt es schöneres an einem Jubeltag der Stiftung, als den Grundstein für eine neue Schule zu legen: im Namen von Petra und José durften wir an der "ground breaking ceremony" für ihre Schule teilnehmen. Die Dorfbewohner von Neu Bagan sind glücklich und zufrieden. Gestern haben wir ihren gesammelten Beitrag von erhalten: 70 Lakh haben sie für ihre Schule als Eigenanteil gesammelt. Min Min und sein Team haben versprochen, das Gebäude im Februar fertig zu stellen - dann kommen Petra und José zur Einweihung. /jg
